FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS
What should I expect on my first visit?
Dr. Miner will ask you to explain where it hurts, how long it has hurt, what happened to make it hurt, etc. After listening to you, Dr Miner will do a physical exam to determine the extent of the injury. Then he will determine what type of treatment you need. Usually, Dr Miner will treat you on the first visit.
Do I need X-rays?
No. Most patients do not need X-rays. It depends on your condition and what Dr Miner finds during your examination. X-rays are generally helpful, but are not usually required.
Can Dr Miner order CT scans and MRI’s if I need them?
Certainly. There are times when they are necessary. But there are insurance limitations. Patients with Medicare or VA or Partnership need to get those through their medical doctor.
What insurance do you take?
We take Medicare, Partnership, VA and some private insurances. If you have Blue Cross or Blue Shield, you may or may not be covered. There are so many different policies, you need to check with your specific plan to make sure our services are covered.
How old do you have to be to see a chiropractor?
My oldest patient, so far, was 102 years old. And she drove herself to the office. My youngest patient was about 10 minutes old. Of course, the treatments are not the same for an infant as for an adult. And there is so many different kinds of patients. Thankfully, Dr Miner has learned many different types of treatments he is able to tailor his treatments to all types of patients.
Are all chiropractors the same?
No. Someone said if you put 5 chiropractors in a room you will have 15 different techniques. That may be an exaggeration, but the point is chiropractors all have their own style to do the work of helping people. Dr Miner has spent thousands of hours studying to find ways to help his many kinds of patients. Dr Miner is certified in myofascial trigger point release, chiropractic physical rehabilitation, Internal Disorders and Diagnosis, and functional medicine. He uses regular chiropractic adjustments, light force instrument adjusting, and uses physiotherapy modalities such as ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, microcurrent and exercises.
What is the difference between medical doctors and chiropractic doctors?
Both are concerned with helping their patients be healthy. MD’s are medicine doctors. Over the years, the practice of medicine has become one of using medicines for their patients. Chiropractors tend to look for natural ways to help their patients. Dr. Miner is not opposed to medicine. He is aware that millions of lives have been saved over the years through the proper use of medicine. Medicine is very good at acute care medicine. American medicine is not very good at dealing with chronic diseases or chronic pain. Chiropractic has been very effective in helping patients with both chronic pain and diseases using natural methods of healing.
Does a Chiropractic Adjustment hurt?
Sometimes. Usually not. Most patients feel some discomfort when they are ‘out’. If you are inflamed and in spasm, there is more likelihood that there will be a greater degree of pain with a chiropractic adjustment. But the relief afterwards if well worth the discomfort. I remember my first chiropractic adjustment. It hurt real bad, but the relief was immediate and wonderful.
I had back surgery. Can I see a chiropractor?
Yes. There are many things a chiropractor can do to help a patient who has had back or neck surgery to recover quickly. Dr. Miner doesn’t do “cracking” adjustments on surgery patients until many months after the surgery. Dr Miner has adjusting instruments that some patients call a ‘mini jackhammer’. These instruments are very effective in restoring spinal function and nerve flow to the brain. But after the surgery has fully healed, it is usually perfectly safe to go back to regular adjustments.
I heard if you start going to a chiropractor you always have to go, Is that true?
No. But once you find out how good you can feel when your spine is aligned, you will probably make it a priority to see your chiropractor. Dr Miner has many patients who he has treated for one injury and they were satisfied. Dr Miner has patients who he has treated for 30 years. How you want to benefit from chiropractic care is up to you. How good do you want to feel?
How long does it take to get better?
That depends on how bad your body is hurt and how long you have had the condition. No two patients are alike. Some patients get better with one or two treatments. But it is more common to need several weeks of treatments. The pain usually goes away before the dysfunction. So, Dr Miner often recommends treatment even after the pain goes away because the body takes time to relearn the proper muscle patterns after an injury.
